        The Mass Maple Leafs battled adversity the month of January with team-wide sickness and injuries.  Despite all of that, the Leafs have had a 7-1-1 record thus far in January heading into the last week of the month and hold a league record of 22-2-2 and an overall record of 40-16-15. 

The Leafs started out the month by going 1-1=1 record at the Eastern Junior Showcase.  The Leafs defeated Empire entry Frederick Freeze 4-1, tied another Empire entry New England Huskies 2-2, and lost to Mets entry Suffolk PAL 4-2 despite outplaying them the majority of the game.

The Leafs then traveled to Philadelphia to play in a league showcase and went 3-0, beating Apple Core 4-1, Brewster Bulldogs 6-2 and Philadelphia Revolution 12-3.  The following weekend they picked up wins over the Springfield Pics 8-2 and 6-5 to go along with a 4-1 win over the NH Monarchs.

The Leafs remain on top of the ESHL with a slim one point lead over the Boston Junior Bruins who they play at the end of the month.  The Leafs have qualified for playoffs with 10 games remaining this is the 9th consecutive playoff appearance and 13th of its 14th year history.  The Leafs have also achieved its 6th consecutive 40 win season and its 8th overall.

 The Leafs are being led by Joey Fernandes with 106 points followed by CJ Cordeiro with 82 points, Ryan Fehnel with 71 points and Adam McGrath with 70 points.  The defense is being led by Kyle Gasior with 35 points, Rick Loveless with 25 points and Sam Jenkins with 24 points.  Leafs goaltending trio Austin Miller has a 13-2-1 record, Donald Hesse has a 3.45 GAA and Cody Stocker has a 2.64 GAA and a 91 save%.

The Leafs have started making some announcements for next year they have expanded their Midget programs as they will have a U18 and a U16 AAA teams next fall.  Tryouts for the U16 and U18 are posted on the Leafs site.  The Leafs are currently throwing out feelers on the possibility of a 14U team as well.
