Borge will wear the brown and white colors of the Bears for the 2010-11 season.
The Massachusetts Maple Leafs Junior Hockey Club would like to congratulate former Maple Leaf standout Mike Borge on his recent commitment to Brown University of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.Mike Borge donned the Maple Leafs sweater in the 2006-2007 season where he split time with the Junior B and Junior C team. As a ’91 birth year that season, Borge flourished under Coach Brian Travers, acquiring 70+ points and helping the Junior C team achieve a regular-season championship and a National’s berth. That year, the Maple Leafs Junior C team went on to be the runner-up of the National Tournament, dropping a 5-0 decision to the champion Space Coast Hurricanes. Halfway through the season, Borge was moved up to the Junior B team where he finished the season. In 24 games under Head Coach Tony DeSilva, Borge finished with 24 goals, 20 assists, and 44 points. His line mates included Eric Araujo, who went on to play at UMASS-Boston, and Bryan O’Connell, who has had stints in the Eastern Professional Hockey League, and the Northeast Professional Hockey League.
When asked about his commitment to Brown, Mike said, “I’m really excited. Playing with the Maple Leafs helped me before I went out to Hotchkiss. It was good to play with the older players at such a young age.”
Borge was the youngest player on the Junior B team that year, and the organization knew he had a ton of potential in him to continue to play at higher levels.
“I want to thank Coach Travers, Tony [DeSilva], and [Coach Metea], in working with me to get better over that year,” Borge said in a message sent to the coaching staff.
The Massachusetts Maple Leafs Organization wishes Mike the best of luck at Brown University next season, and with all of his future endeavors. Good job Mike!
