Junior Hockey All Stars Converge on Western New York

Part of the amateur hockey world will have their eyes on Buffalo and Western New York this coming weekend as the Buffalo Stars Juniors get ready to host the Junior All Star weekend featuring 84 teenage hockey players from 17 States.Junior hockey is the pinnacle of amateur hockey in the United States. With only 250 such teams in the entire United States, the young men who play Junior Hockey are the cream of the crop and have aspirations of one day playing college or even professional hockey.
This weekend’s event will feature Junior B and Junior C divisions from the Continental Hockey Association and the Great Lakes Hockey League. In total, these 2 leagues cover a geographic region of 17 states. The players involved range in age from 15-20.
The host Buffalo Stars has four players participating in this event. Andy Sturtz (Buffalo) from the Buffalo Stars Continental Junior B team is the lone Buffalo rep at the B level. At the C level, the Buffalo Stars are represented by Travis Densmore (Arcade), Ashton Laird (Delevan) and Robert Mund (Holland).
The weekend festivities kick off Sunday morning at the Host Millennium Hotel/Buffalo Airport with a breakfast. The actual games begin at 1:45pm with the C All Stars followed by the B game at 3:55pm. The Skills Competition begins at 6pm as all 84 players will participate in 6 events. Games conclude on Monday morning as the Cs take to the ice at 9am and the B’s at 11am. All games are being held at the Holiday Twin Rinks in Cheektowaga.
“It is an honor for Buffalo to be chosen to host the All Stars” says Buffalo Stars Owner Peter Preteroti who also serves as General Chairman of this event. “The best players from both leagues are descending on Buffalo in the middle of winter. They are coming here for some great hockey and hope to show off their skills to numerous scouts from around the country and Canada.” In addition, they will stay in our hotels and spend money in our restaurants and malls.” “This is a win-win for our community”.
