Former Leaf Standout Thomas Helps Lead Cadets to NCAA National Championship

2010-03-24

Former Leafs Standout Kyle Thomas Stands Out at Norwich

Last weekend’s NCAA Division 3 National Championship almost went to a record third overtime, but former Maple Leaf standout put that to a halt with just 0:31 seconds left in the second overtime frame.

Kyle Thomas helped end the scoreless streak when his teammate Pier-Oliver Cotnoir slammed home a rebound from Thomas’ original shot to give Norwich University a 2-1 2OT victory over St. Norbert in Lake Placid.  Thomas had accrued 9 shots in the final game, tied for a team high.

Thomas had a successful freshman campaign where he tallied a team-high 23 goals, in addition to 9 assists, including his most important of the year coming against the Green Nights.  His goal tallies were good enough for a tie for 3rd in nation at the Division 3 level.

Thomas suited up for the Maple Leafs Junior C team in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.  His offensive fire power helped lead the Leafs to consecutive Continental Hockey Association regular-season championships, and a Junior C National Championship Runner-up position.

After his years with the Maple Leafs, Thomas moved on to the South Shore Kings EJHL team before being recruited to play for Norwich University.

The Maple Leafs organization is extremely proud of Kyle and his outstanding athletic achievements at the collegiate level.  The Maple Leafs wish Kyle continued success at Norwich, both on and off the ice, and in his other future endeavors
