Stars Announce Opening Schedule

2010-07-25

The Buffalo Stars Empire and Continental teams open the upcoming season at home on September 10, 11, and 12.

Both Stars teams will open the regular season with a 3 game set. The Continental team will host the New England Huskies September 10, 11 and 12 while the Empire team will host the Frederick Freeze for a pair on September 11 and a single on the 12th.  This Home Opening Weekend will include a multitude of festivities including the Stars Annual Salute to the American Troops Weekend. There will also be a 911 Remembrance Ceremony.  The Stars will conduct elaborate Opening Ceremonies complete with Military Color Guards and Spotlights.  There will be a collection of Phone Cards to send to our troops as well as a Chinese Auction to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.  This will also be Stars Alumni Weekend and will include an Alumni game and the presentation of C's to new Captains by past Captains.

New faces in the Empire this season include the Frederick Freeze and the Potomic Patriots. These teams purchased the Pittsburgh Junior Penguins and Elmira Jackals franchises, respectively.  The Continental team will also see new faces as they have moved into the National Conference. The move was made to give the team more exposure to the Eastern Junior Cities which include the Junior Bruins, New Hampshire Monarchs, South Shore Kings and others. "This move will certainly be a challenge for us." said Stars General Manager Pete Preteroti. "The competition will be strong, but the value of playing in the heart of Eastern Junior A country far outweighs any negative".

The Continental team will also host the CHA Showcase in Buffalo on December 26-28, and will participate in the Columbus Showcase in New Hampshire in October. The Empire team will participate in the same Columbus Showcase as well as the Maksymum Showcase in Rochester in November.

With the addition of 6 Eastern Junior cities to the CHA, the exposure opportunity for the Continental League has grown considerably.  The transfer of the Jackals franchise to a large metropolitan area with a much larger hockey base will strengthen the American Conference of the Empire league as well.

The Stars will also use this season to make every home game an "Event". Each home weekend will have a distinct theme and will include a multitude of activities surrounding each game. More details on our Event and Promotion schedule will follow by mid-August.

The Stars CHA team concludes the regular season February 12-13 as South Shore comes to town. The Empire concludes two weeks later as Syracuse closes the season at Holiday Rinks. The complete schedule (minus a few times) can be viewed on our website: www.buffalostars.com
